Upon arriving in New Orleans from California in 1996, Carolina Gallop decided to use her talent as a Fashion Designer to create unique fashions resulting in various fashion shows in and around the New Orleans area. Her first fashion show was held at the Fashion Cafe in December, 1996. She has donated to various charities around the N.O community. Carolina also teaches young people in the Lower 9th Ward how to sew and has taught High School Students at Warren Easton High.
On August 24, 2005 Carolina held a show at Café Brasil and unfortunately Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana on Monday, August 29, 2005. Like most people in the New Orleans area Carolina evacuated and did not return to New Orleans until two years later. She lost all of her belongings including her Sewing and Creating Studio and was living in the Destin Beach, Florida area for one year. Upon her return to New Orleans, she started getting her studio together and after nearly 3 years on October 1, 2008, she held her come-back fashion show at the Blue Nile.
As a native of Honduras, Carolina captures in her clothes the vibrancy and energy of the Caribbean. Her love of this energy is also her reason for living in New Orleans. She finds inspiration for her designs in the festive atmosphere of the city, its culture, and heritage. According to Carolina, “There is no place in the states like New Orleans. What is so wonderful is that a woman can be beautiful, powerful and independent. These are the woman that I design for; Women who are not afraid!”.
Carolina Gallop was a featured artist in the visual arts exhibition Sheroes, organized by The National Organization for Women and Hanson Galleries New Orleans in conjunction with Art for Art’s Sake at Hanson Gallery. She has done fashion shows for the NFL Players Party that Fashion Cafe hosted during the Super bowl in 1997 at the Municipal Auditorium; The Hyatt Regency Hotel (June, 1997), Cafe Brazil (September, 1997); House of Blues (May, 1998); Patout’s Bourbon Vieux Room (August 98); and the Fashion Cafe (November 98). She was also one of the featured designers at the first Fashion Week held in New Orleans.
Since 1999 she has done the Millennium Fashion Show Fundraisers to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras, as well as donating her fashion pieces to the various charities around the New Orleans area. She has been doing her fashion events at Le Chat Noir since August 1999 and was one of the first shows held at Le Chat Noir before their opening. She has since done shows at various venues around the city in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2014. Carolina showcases over 70 pieces of her own fashions and in 2009 she started showcasing other designers work, as well as performers, musicians, comedians, etc. She has 200-350 people in attendance at every show and over 20 models walking down her catwalks.
